Sustainable Cosmetics, Natural Cosmetics, and more
Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important factor for the cosmetics industry. Terms such as “natural,” “vegan,” “promoting animal welfare,” “recycled,” “microplastic-free,” “sustainably packaged,” or “responsibly sourced” may be strong selling points, but starting in September 2026, they must be clearly, transparently, and robustly substantiated.
For cosmetics companies, verifying sustainability claims is particularly complex because their products rarely consist of just one sustainability aspect. A cream may contain plant-based ingredients, use palm oil-based derivatives, be sold in plastic packaging, and at the same time be marketed as vegan, natural, or microplastic-free.
Each individual claim requires its own verification framework—ranging from raw material data and supply chain information to laboratory analyses and certified standards.

RSPO – Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil
Palm Oil is certified according to specific criteria from the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), the aim of which is to reduce negative impacts of palm oil cultivation on the environment and communities. Control Union executes the RSPO certification of sustainable palm oil in line with procedures specified in the RSPO certification scheme.

Companies from all industries can subject their products to the independent certification process. The product and packaging are both subject to the assessment. The V-Label is an internationally recognized and protected trademark used to identify vegan and vegetarian products. The trademark was established in Switzerland in 1996 and has since provided clear and reliable guidance.
